Post image for Picnik is Closing! Best Online Photo Editing Tools

Picnik is a great online photo editing tool which is very easy to use and allows you to edit your images and add effects to them. Since Google acquired Picnik, there had been few changes in Picnik, most recent is that “It’s closing now”. You won’t be able to edit your images on Picnik’s website starting 19th April 2012 but if you’re a Google+ user, you can edit your images in Google+ using Picnik.

Now for those who don’t want to edit images on Google+ for their own reasons, we have reviewed below photo editing tools which are as good as Picnik rather I would say better.

1. Pixlr

Pixlr is a superb image editing tool which has  many image editing options using which you can create layers, add text, images , resize images & do most of the stuff that you could do in PhotoShop and the best part of all is that it’s online and is a light tool so no worries that your browser might crash while editing images.  Pixlr also offers Pixlr Express using which you can do most of the common image editing options like color adjustments, adding effects, borders, text, stickers etc. Pixlr-o-matic is the easiest and quickest way to edit images. Pixlr also recently integrated with Photobucket so if you are a registered photobucket user, you can edit image directly on Photobucket.com.

Apps for mobile devices: Pixlr also offers mobile apps for iOS and android devices.

Browser Extensions: Grabber is a pixlr app for grabbing screenshot of webpages. It is available on Firefox and Chrome.

2. Sumo Paint

Sumo Paint is another online editing tool after using which you might not think of installing PhotoShop on your computer. Besides having the most of Pixlr features, Sumo Paint has variety of filters which you can apply to your images to create 3d effect, blur effects, add noise etc. Currently there isn’t any integration with social media sites like Facebook or Google+ is available. If you upgrade to Pro version of Sumo Paint, you can add more filters and effects and get variety of high quality image editing tools.

There were few other light image editing tools like Fotoflexer, Pho.to, Lunapic but they weren’t as impressive as Pixlr and Sumo Paint. You can test these tools and find which one is most suited for you. Do let us know your views in comment below.

With the Picture Resizer high quality engine, you may also crop and rotate images, apply Text-Over-Image or effects such as grayscale, sepia and invert. Image upload size limit is 8 mb, enough for most modern digital cameras.
