Since most of the users use PC, they seem to remember the command ipconfig, which gives your IP address. This command can be run by going to Start -> Run -> Type cmd
This will open a MS-DOS command prompt.
The procedure to find ip address on mac is slightly different :
Go To :
Finder -> Utilities -> Terminal
In the Terminal window prompt, type
ifconfig <ret>
The IP addresses will appear in the line that starts with “inet”.
